INSTALLATION & FITMENT
How to replace BMW side mirror covers
A careful clip-by-clip method for removing and fitting BMW side mirror cover caps.
Required tools
- Plastic trim tool or thick plastic card
- Microfiber cloth
Step-by-step instructions
1. Fold the mirror and locate the joint
Fold the side mirror using the interior control or manually, if the vehicle permits it. Alternatively, adjust the mirror glass fully inward and downward to improve access and reduce tension on the housing.
Locate the seam between the upper painted cover and the lower black plastic housing on the side closest to the car body.
2. Unclip the factory cover
- Insert the thin edge of a plastic trim tool or thick plastic card into the upper part of the seam nearest the car body.
- Use a smooth, controlled levering motion to move the cover away from the housing until the first clip releases.
- Slide the tool along the upper edge toward the outside of the mirror, releasing the internal clips one by one.
- When the top and side clips are free, pull the cover straight forward in the direction of travel and remove it.

3. Clean the mounting area
Use a clean microfiber cloth to remove dirt and dust from the exposed plastic housing and turn-signal indicator. Inspect the slots and compare the tabs on the old and new covers before fitting the replacement.
4. Install the new cover
- Place the new cover onto the housing from the outside and align its guide tabs—especially those at the outer edge—with the matching slots.
- Press the cover from the outer edge toward the inner edge nearest the car body.
- Apply even pressure with your palm around the full perimeter until every clip engages with a clear click.
- Check that the gaps between the cover, lower housing and clear indicator strip are even and flush.
